High-End Gallery District on Tokyo’s Artificial Island
Tennozu Isle is one of Tokyo’s best-kept secrets—a waterfront district that many guidebooks overlook and one that even many Tokyo residents rarely visit unless they’re interested in contemporary art.
We’ll explore more than twenty galleries clustered within walking distance, making this one of Tokyo’s most enjoyable art walks—even on rainy days.
Along the way, you’ll learn why this artificial island was built, how it evolved into one of Japan’s leading contemporary art districts, and the role both government and private organizations played in its transformation.
We’ll also stop at art cafés or waterfront restaurants whenever you’d like.
While this tour features a lot of art, the walking itself is relatively easy, making for a relaxed and enjoyable experience.
Food and drinks are not included.
